Job Description
Job Title: Wireline Specialist
Location: KSA/UAE/Africa
Reports to: Operations Manager / Field Supervisor
Job Summary:
The Wireline Specialist is responsible for the planning, execution, and supervision of wireline operations at oil and gas well sites. This role involves using technical expertise to oversee wireline tools, ensure the accurate collection of downhole data, and support well intervention activities. The Wireline Specialist plays a key role in troubleshooting, training junior staff, and maintaining operational excellence in all wireline services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operations Leadership: Supervise and manage the full cycle of wireline operations, including logging, perforation, and well interventions. Lead the team in setting up and operating wireline tools and equipment.
- Technical Expertise: Provide advanced technical support in the operation and maintenance of wireline equipment, interpreting well logs, and ensuring optimal tool performance.
- Data Acquisition & Interpretation: Ensure accurate acquisition of downhole data, including well logs, pressure, and temperature readings. Work closely with engineers and geologists to analyze the data for decision-making.
- Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving: Diagnose and resolve complex operational or equipment issues in the field, minimizing downtime and optimizing job performance.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure that all wireline operations adhere to safety standards, company policies, and industry regulations (OSHA, API, HSE, etc.). Promote a strong safety culture on-site and during operations.
- Rig Up/Rig Down Operations: Oversee the rigging up and rigging down of wireline equipment at the wellsite, ensuring that it is done efficiently, safely, and in accordance with company procedures.
- Training & Development: Train junior wireline operators and crew members on proper operational techniques, tool handling, and safety procedures. Provide mentorship to develop the team’s skills.
- Job Planning & Coordination: Work closely with clients and the operations team to plan and coordinate wireline jobs, ensuring that all tools and equipment are prepared and job objectives are clearly understood.
- Maintenance & Inventory Management: Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of wireline tools and equipment. Manage inventory of tools and parts, ensuring availability for operations.
- Reporting: Maintain detailed operational logs and reports, documenting job execution, data collected, tool performance, and any incidents or equipment malfunctions.
- Client Interaction: Act as a key point of contact for clients at the wellsite, providing updates, clarifications, and post-job briefings.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, petroleum technology, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent work experience in wireline services may be considered.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in wireline operations, with hands-on experience in logging, perforating, and well intervention services.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with wireline tools, downhole sensors, and logging instruments. Knowledge of wireline control systems, mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems used in operations.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as well control certification, H2S training, and industry-specific qualifications (e.g., IWCF, API, or IADC certification).
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work in demanding environments, including lifting heavy equipment, operating in extreme weather, and enduring long shifts at wellsites.
- Driver’s License: Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a clean driving record may be required.
- Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work closely with clients, engineers, and operations personnel.
