US Manager of Development
**Job Details:**
To proactively develop our client’s greenfield portfolio in the US, we are seeking an experienced, utility-scale renewable energy project developer with a commercial mindset, focused on creating value while contributing to the project development pipeline. This role will be directly involved in day-to-day project decisions, with a focus on key US markets within ERCOT, MISO, and PJM. The candidate may work remotely, with a preference to reside in a target market near an airport for convenient business travel, or be based near the US headquarters in Houston, Texas.
**Key Activities and Responsibilities:**
- Oversee the greenfield development process and potential acquisitions to advance projects to NTP/construction-ready status within strategic timelines.
- Provide hands-on project development, including:
- Identifying and securing land for utility-scale Solar, BESS, and Wind projects.
- Identifying project and partnership opportunities to grow the pipeline, negotiating and managing co-development agreements with senior team support.
- Managing project development processes, schedules, and budgets.
- Coordinating closely with Transmission/Interconnection, Real Estate, and Legal teams.
- Negotiating key development contracts.
- Analyzing and reviewing the commercial viability of projects based on technical design, layout, interconnection, permitting, and total installed cost.
- Developing an in-depth understanding of local and state market legislation and regulations.
- Provide leadership and mentoring to associates on development activities.
- Manage multiple projects through the development process, utilizing internal and external resources for market and interconnection analyses, real estate assessments, landowner relationships, environmental studies, property tax abatements, required permits, regulatory support, land surveys, and execution of interconnection & power purchase agreements, as well as EPC/commissioning support.
- Conduct commercial due diligence on acquisition targets for renewable energy projects.
- Maintain transparent and timely project reporting for internal leadership.
- Possess strong computer skills and an interest in exploring new software platforms to support project development.
- Present projects to the Investment Committee as needed.
**Qualifications and Experience:**
- 4+ years of development experience with renewable energy projects.
- Experience in ERCOT, MISO, and PJM markets is essential; WECC experience is a plus but not required.
- Ability to thrive in a remote, entrepreneurial work environment.
- Comfortable leading teams of internal colleagues and external consultants to ensure progress on multiple projects in various stages of development.
- General understanding of renewable energy trends and developments in target markets.
- Approachability and leadership by example, demonstrating high integrity and professional drive, balanced with empathy.
- Effective problem solver and project management leader with strong attention to detail and relentless drive.
- Ability to work well within multi-disciplinary teams across different time zones.
- Capable of communicating problem-solving options and recommended solutions to leadership.
- Proven track record of determination and grit to meet or exceed project milestones.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, especially in remote work settings.
- Willingness to travel domestically 20-40%, with occasional trips to Europe.
- A bachelor's degree in business, engineering, energy, or a related field is preferred.
