Service & Commissioning Engineer (Offshore Equipment)

Location: Schiedam, Netherlands
Contract: 12‑month contract (strong potential to convert to permanent)

About the Role

We are supporting a leading engineering organisation within the offshore energy sector who are looking to add a Service & Commissioning Engineer to their Aftermarket / Services team, based in Schiedam.

In this role, you will be responsible for the commissioning, servicing, troubleshooting, inspection, and ongoing support of complex offshore equipment across international and offshore locations. You will work hands‑on with mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control systems, representing the organisation directly on customer sites.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced field engineer who enjoys technical variety, offshore exposure, and close customer interaction, with a clear pathway toward a long‑term permanent role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commission, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade offshore equipment
  • Work across mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, PLC, and control systems
  • Support offshore operations such as rig moves, jacking trials, and equipment handover
  • Supervise and support maintenance activities offshore and on-site
  • Prepare work method statements, conduct pre‑job meetings, and lead toolbox talks
  • Produce clear, structured service and commissioning reports
  • Promote and uphold strong safety and quality standards at all times
  • Provide technical support from the office when not offshore
  • Participate in call‑out and standby duties as required
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and mentoring of junior engineers

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Technical qualification (MBO 3/4 or HBO) in Mechanical, Electrical, Hydraulic, Mechatronic Engineering, or similar
  • Approximately 5 years’ experience in offshore, heavy industry, or complex equipment environments
  • Strong hands‑on knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and/or electrical systems
  • Willingness to travel internationally and offshore (~50%)
  • Good command of English, written and spoken
  • Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams in offshore conditions

Desired / Advantageous

  • Experience with PLC systems (Step 7 / TIA Portal preferred)
  • Experience with offshore systems such as cranes, jacking, skidding, or fixation systems
  • Valid offshore safety certifications
  • Strong customer‑facing and reporting skills
