Job Description

Embedded Software & Power Platform AI Engineer

Location: London (Hybrid)

The role

We’re looking for a Power Platform Software Engineer with an embedded software mindset and the Microsoft skill set to match. You’ll combine low-level engineering discipline (devices, data, real-time systems) with Power Platform and applied AI to build solutions that connect operational technology to the people who use it.

You’ll also work closely with the teams who depend on those systems. You’ll understand how the work really gets done, map the process, and build the solution yourself, from the device or data source through to the app, workflow and dashboard.

What you’ll do

  • Work with business and operational teams to understand their workflows, pain points and data, and map current and future-state processes
  • Build solutions with Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse and Power BI, such as operator apps, approvals, alerts and reporting
  • Connect devices and embedded systems to the Microsoft stack using Azure IoT Hub, Event Hubs, Logic Apps, Functions and custom connectors
  • Work with embedded software and firmware where needed, such as telemetry, device data, protocols and interfaces between hardware and cloud
  • Apply AI where it adds real value, using Copilot Studio, AI Builder, Azure OpenAI and Azure ML for anomaly detection, classification, summarisation and intelligent assistants
  • Prototype quickly, get working versions in front of users early and iterate on their feedback
  • Build to engineering standards, with source control, testing, CI/CD (Azure DevOps or GitHub), security and governance
  • Support go-live and adoption, and measure impact in hours saved, faults reduced and cycle times improved

What you’ll bring

  • A background in embedded software engineering, with hands-on experience in C/C++ (or similar), firmware, RTOS, microcontrollers or embedded Linux
  • Strong hands-on experience delivering production solutions on Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse)
  • Experience integrating devices, sensors or industrial systems with cloud platforms, ideally Azure
  • Practical experience applying AI or Copilot capabilities in real workflows, with a sensible view of where they help and where they don’t
  • Engineering discipline: version control, environment management, testing and CI/CD
  • Clear communication, with the ability to run discovery sessions and explain technical choices to non-technical colleagues
  • A pragmatic, ownership-driven mindset

Nice to have

  • Azure IoT, Edge or Digital Twins experience
  • Python, C# or JavaScript for extending beyond low-code
  • Industrial protocols such as MQTT, OPC UA or Modbus
  • Dynamics 365 experience
  • Microsoft certifications (PL-200, PL-400, AZ-204, AI-102, AZ-220)
  • Experience in [your sector, e.g. manufacturing, energy, automotive, medical devices]
  • Process improvement background (Lean, Six Sigma)
