Lead Data Engineer
Job Description
We’re supporting a fast-growing, well-funded scale-up in their search for a Data Engineer to help build and scale their next-gen talent intelligence platform.
Our client is on a mission to completely reimagine how organisations understand and manage talent—bringing modern data engineering and machine learning together to unlock powerful insights in a sector that’s long overdue for change.
With recent backing from some of Europe’s top early-stage investors and a leadership team that’s previously built high-performing, mission-driven teams, this is a unique opportunity to join a company at a pivotal growth stage. You'll be joining a collaborative, international team with a people-first mindset, and have a key role in shaping their data foundations.
The Role
As a Lead Data Engineer, you’ll join a newly forming Data team responsible for designing, building, and scaling robust data pipelines, web scrapers, and cloud infrastructure to support a range of machine learning use cases.
This is a greenfield opportunity—so we’re looking for someone who enjoys building from the ground up, solving complex challenges, and working cross-functionally with engineers and data scientists.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain cloud-native ETL pipelines and ingestion workflows
- Design and implement web crawlers and scrapers to extract and structure external data
- Integrate with third-party APIs and develop internal APIs for data access
- Set up and optimise data lake/Lakehouse/warehouse environments
- Collaborate with ML engineers to deploy models into production pipelines
- Contribute to the overall data architecture and best practices
What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience building ETL pipelines in cloud environments (ideally AWS)
- Proficient in Python with solid experience in SQL and NoSQL databases
- Comfortable with data wrangling, API integrations, and automation
- Experience with web scraping and large-scale data extraction
- Exposure to data lakehouse/lake/warehouse architecture
- Bonus: experience with Docker, GitHub Actions, Terraform, or distributed systems
- A creative, pragmatic mindset with a passion for clean, scalable solutions
Requirements
- Fluent in English
- Right to work in the Netherlands
- Comfortable working on-site in a hybrid setup (2+ days per week)
