Job Description

Job Title: HV Cable and Routing Engineer
Location: Netherlands (various project sites and/or hybrid working available)
Sector: High Voltage / Transmission & Distribution

About the Role
Our client, a leading engineering consultancy and grid infrastructure provider in the Netherlands, is currently looking to expand their high voltage engineering team with the addition of an experienced HV Cable and Routing Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity to join a company involved in national grid upgrades, renewable energy connections, and offshore wind cable routing.

You will be responsible for the design and routing of underground high voltage cable systems (typically 33kV–400kV), supporting large-scale energy infrastructure projects from initial feasibility through to detailed design and installation support.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver HV cable routing designs, including route alignment, trench profiles, duct/trough layouts, and joint bay locations
Produce and review technical drawings using CAD and/or BIM platforms in line with project standards
Carry out or oversee cable rating calculations (e.g., current carrying capacity, thermal assessments, voltage drop)
Evaluate environmental, structural, and utility constraints to optimise routing and mitigate risks
Support permitting, technical submissions, and coordination with local authorities and utility providers
Liaise closely with civil, electrical, geotechnical, and environmental teams throughout the design lifecycle
Attend site visits, surveys, and installation supervision where needed
Ensure designs adhere to Dutch and European standards (NEN, IEC, BS, ENA, etc.)

Required:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline
3+ years’ experience in HV cable design and routing, ideally including projects in the 110kV–400kV range
Proficient in AutoCAD, and experience with tools like CYMCAP, WinDEED, or cable pulling software
Understanding of underground cable construction, trenching methods, and installation best practices
Strong technical documentation and communication skills in English
Experience working with Dutch utilities (e.g., TenneT, Liander, Enexis)
Familiarity with GIS tools, BIM, or 3D routing
Dutch language skills (advantageous, not essential)
EU work authorization or based in the Netherlands
