Technical Project Manager Electrical, Hydraulic & Automation – Schiedam, Netherlands
Contract Duration: Initial 12-month contract working via Leap29, after the 12 months you will go into a potential permanent position
Language Requirement: English and preferably Dutch speaking
The Technical Project Manager plays a vital role in overseeing the delivery of capital equipment within complex projects that involve substantial engineering components. This role is responsible for managing all technical aspects of the project, including scope control, documentation submissions, and identifying variations to the work scope. Acting as a key representative of the company, the Technical Project Manager serves as the focal point for engineering schedules, technical interfaces, and quality matters.
Working closely with various departments, including Project Management, Sales, Sales Support & Engineering, Supply Chain, and Construction, the Technical Project Manager leverages technical expertise to ensure the successful and professional execution of capital equipment projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist technical sales in defining concept solutions, covering areas such as:
- Project planning
- Work breakdown structures
- System architecture
- System calculations and verifications
- Technical scope of supply
- Ensure the successful technical execution of projects, with a focus on control, hydraulic, and electrical engineering aspects.
- Oversee the engineering scope, deliverables, and goals as per contractual requirements, ensuring compliance with company standards and subcontracting needs.
- Develop and maintain engineering schedules in coordination with the Project Planner.
- Allocate engineering resources in collaboration with the CHES department manager.
- Manage the engineering team responsible for electrical, automation, and hydraulics.
- Facilitate third-party design reviews or verifications where required.
- Ensure alignment across Electrical, Automation, and Hydraulic engineering disciplines, mitigating any technical scope gaps or overlaps.
- Coordinate engineering reviews conducted by subcontractors, including detailed engineering from fabrication yards when applicable.
- Oversee the evaluation of vendor technical documentation alongside Package Managers.
- Support technical quotation assessments in collaboration with Buyers or Procurement Coordinators.
- Act as a consultant and specialist for specific systems, providing expertise to Sales and junior project team members.
- Liaise with Package Managers or Quality Control Coordinators regarding vendor package status.
- Engage with clients and project owners on technical matters.
- Protect intellectual property related to the project in coordination with the Product Coordinator.
- Mentor and support project team members in alignment with team leaders and line managers.
- Undertake additional tasks as assigned by the Project Manager.
Essential:
- Master’s degree in a relevant engineering field.
- At least 15 years of relevant experience, including a minimum of 5 years in a similar role.
- Strong leadership skills to manage a multidisciplinary Electrical and Automation Engineering team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Fluent in English (verbal and written communication).
- Experience with design and engineering tools such as EPLAN P8, AutoCAD, and MATLAB Simulink.
- Knowledge of classification society regulations.
Desirable:
- Experience with Microsoft Project.
- Proficiency in Dutch (advantageous but not required).
- Familiarity with verification tools such as MATLAB Simulink SimPowerSystems, ETAP, or SKM PowerTools.
- Experience with detailed design tools such as AutoCAD and EPLAN P8.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement:
- Perform duties in accordance with company quality assurance procedures and departmental work instructions.
- Identify and recommend preventive and corrective actions to enhance quality.
- Contribute to lessons learned initiatives to drive continuous improvement.
Training & Development:
- Participate in relevant training programs as required.

- Maintain a strong safety-conscious mindset and report any hazards to the designated HSE representative.
