DevOps Engineer (SRE) – Contract

We are looking for an experienced SRE / DevOps Engineer to join a fast-paced team, driving improvements in reliability, automation, and scalability. This role will involve guiding the setup of the SRE service while working closely with the existing team.

Location: Hybrid – Onsite in Wokingham 1-2 days per week
Duration: 12 months (with potential extension)
Rate: £70/hour
Clearance: BPSS required
24/7 Support Rota: To be discussed with successful candidates

Key Responsibilities:

• Improve and maintain the SRE practice, ensuring system reliability and performance.
• Develop and optimize automated deployment pipelines and CI/CD processes.
• Oversee incident response, root cause analysis, and implement automated resolutions.
• Manage service catalogues, change management, and ensure smooth production releases.
• Optimize observability and performance monitoring to meet SLAs.
• Contribute to cost and capacity management, automating infrastructure provisioning.

Tech Stack (Experience in some areas required, not all):

• Containerization & Orchestration: Kubernetes / OpenShift
• Automation & CI/CD: GitOps, Tekton, Bitbucket
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Azure, VMware, ACM
• Monitoring & Security: Grafana, Istio, HashiCorp Vault
• Scripting & Configuration: YAML, Bash
