Job description

Project Director – APAC

Leap29 is supporting a prominent, industry leading, global company specialising in the development, building and operating of Solar PV, Onshore and Offshore Wind, and Storage projects.

We are seeking a Project Director to oversee the setup and leadership of a technical team, prepare proposals and bids, optimise CAPEX/OPEX estimates and timelines, analyse risks and opportunities, negotiate contracts, and support project delivery teams.

This job position can be based in Nanterre or in Montpellier with the possibility of 2 days home office.

Responsibilities:

  • Foster a proactive Health and Safety culture within the project teams, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Oversee ongoing projects and technical workstreams, ensuring alignment with industry practices, policies, and guidelines.
  • Support and mentor Project Managers within your portfolio, providing guidance as needed.
  • Act as the escalation point for technical matters in the area.
  • Represent the Industry Division at the project level and participate in relevant governance bodies.
  • Assess portfolio impact and value creation, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and recommending actions as necessary.
  • Manage the resource allocation process and influence decisions around it.
  • Lead complex, large-scale projects in the APAC region, ensuring technical solutions are optimized and aligned with company policies and renewable technology roadmaps.
  • Organize project reviews, technical missions, and peer reviews to support project delivery.
  • Manage Industrial Improvement plans, supporting countries with continuous improvement in their development, construction, and operations.
  • Assist project teams with technical and project management matters, and mentor PMO project managers.
  • Oversee project managers during implementation, ensuring consistency in project management processes, tools, and methods.
  • Review the portfolio for balance (e.g., risk vs. return, short-term vs. long-term) and negotiate with stakeholders as necessary.
  • Ensure projects follow governance principles and best practices, assisting Project Managers in enforcing these principles.
  • Facilitate and occasionally participate in strategic bodies, project boards, or technical committees.
  • Develop and maintain an executive “cockpit” for the portfolio, providing progress updates to the PMO VP.
  • As a portfolio manager, you'll also contribute to regular updates on the "Industry pipeline," making recommendations on project prioritisation, changes, or termination. Throughout the portfolio lifecycle, you'll assess the business value added, manage risks and opportunities, and support process improvements.
