Director of Project Finance – Renewables

Leap29 is offering an exciting opportunity for a Director of Project Finance to join a well-respected renewables company specializing in Wind, Solar, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). This role, based in San Francisco, involves leading the financing of large-scale renewable energy projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee key corporate and project finance transactions, including equity, debt, and tax equity, with potential capital from government and strategic sources.
  • Serve as the internal project manager, aligning stakeholders, managing budgets, and keeping project timelines on track.
  • Lead tax credit monetization strategies and address working capital needs for industrial decarbonization projects.
  • Manage all aspects of transaction execution—marketing, term sheet negotiations, financial modeling, and investor due diligence.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with debt, equity, and tax equity investors.
  • Develop complex financial models independently and guide the team in using them.
  • Collaborate with leadership to create innovative financing strategies and prepare marketing materials for capital raising.
  • Report directly to the MD and C-level management and the Board of Directors.

Qualifications:

  • BS/BA required, MBA preferred. 5+ years of experience in project or corporate finance, including at least 3 years in solar or storage projects.
  • Proven expertise in managing relationships with project sponsors, buyers, IPPs, tax equity investors, and lenders.
  • Strong knowledge of project finance for solar PV plants and BESS, with the ability to evaluate risks and develop finance solutions.
  • Proficient in Excel for creating financial models to assess project economics and PPA bids.
  • Experience in working with project developers and navigating RFP processes.
  • Demonstrated success in sourcing investors, managing due diligence, and closing complex transactions.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact with senior leadership across cultures.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.

This is an opportunity to make a significant impact in the renewable energy sector while working closely with senior leadership.
