Grid Connections Engineer

 

Interested to join a dynamic development team and play a pivotal role in connecting energy projects to the grid? Leap29 are recruiting for a role as Grid Connection Engineer, reporting to the  Head of Connections to ensure the smooth integration of our projects, leveraging your analytical, communication, and project management expertise.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in identifying and assessing grid capacity for energy storage, demand, and generation projects across the UK.
  • Collaborate with grid operators, regulators, and stakeholders to ensure compliance with grid connection standards and regulations.
  • Work alongside internal teams—engineering, project management, and finance—to deliver grid connections on time and within budget.
  • Support negotiations of grid connection agreements and address any related challenges.
  • Provide updates to the Head of Connections and contribute to the broader project development team on grid and electrical engineering tasks.
  • Assist in conducting feasibility studies and technical evaluations for various grid connection options.
  • Track and report on the progress and performance of grid connections.
  • Aid in the preparation, submission, and management of grid connection applications through the approval process.
  • Keep informed of evolving regulations and technology trends related to grid connections and energy project development.
  • Attend industry events and conferences to maintain and grow relationships with key partners, including DNOs/IDNOs/TNOs/ICPs, and other relevant technology stakeholders.

 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in energy project development, particularly in the grid connection and pre-construction phases.
  • Strong ability to identify grid capacity, prepare technical documentation, and submit successful grid applications.
  • Proactive approach to managing individual projects and accountability for their outcomes.
  • Confident in establishing and maintaining relationships with DNOs, TNOs, ICPs, EPCs, and other third-party advisors.
  • Solid understanding of the distribution and transmission grid systems and their role in energy project development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Knowledge of grid connection regulations and energy markets is advantageous.
  • Degree in engineering, preferably electrical, though other disciplines are welcome.
  • Full UK driving licence required.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD (for creating electrical single-line diagrams and related technical documents).
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
