Job Description

Leap29 are seeking an experienced Interconnection Associate/Manager to join an established solar developer in the Northeast. In this pivotal role, you will lead the interconnection process for utility-scale and community solar projects, ensuring timely and efficient integration of solar systems into the grid. You will collaborate with utility companies, regulatory bodies, and internal teams to navigate complex interconnection challenges and drive project success.

 

This role has the potential to grow into Manager and Director of Interconnection, where you will be gradually building out your own team.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead a team of renewable energy developers in injection capacity analysis and interconnection processes, managing financial fees, risks, and securities from interconnection submission to project commissioning.
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with utility representatives, ISOs, RTOs, transmission service providers, and consultants.
  • Ensure timely project execution through effective communication and collaboration.
  • Oversee the interconnection application process, studies, and manage related interconnection agreements for projects under 5MW.
  • Advise the development team on potential risks and strategies to achieve construction readiness within set timelines.
  • Manage multiple interconnection projects at various stages of development.
  • Ensure project adhere to deadlines and meet all technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee the technical review of key project equipment from an interconnection perspective.
  • Understand utility lead times on similar equipment to facilitate project planning and execution.
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of internal processes related to interconnection.
  • Manage external consultants to support project schedules and deliverables.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences and events to stay updated on best practices and emerging trends.
  • Conduct due diligence on acquisition targets for renewable energy projects in selected markets.
  • Report on due diligence findings, including feasibility and expected costs.
  • Utilize advanced computer skills for project distribution and injection capacity analysis.
  • Explore and implement new software platforms to enhance project analysis and management capabilities.
  • Oversee the acquisition of Right of Way easement needed to support utility designs.

 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • 6+ years of experience in the sector, 4+ years specifically in interconnection and utility coordination.
  • Extensive interconnection processes and regulations with utilities within the PJM, NYISO, MISO, NEISO territories.
  • Proven experience managing interconnection projects from initiation through completion.
  • Strong technical background in reviewing and understanding key project equipment and utility requirements.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Proficiency in advanced computer skills and familiarity with software platforms for capacity analysis.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to maintain productive relationships with various stakeholders.
