Senior Electrical Engineer (Product, Permitting & Development - BESS / EV Charging / Solar)

 

Leap29 have a position which is available, for a candidate to be based in San Francisco region, as Senior Electrical Engineer to focus on the Electrical Design of Energy Storage, EV Charging and Solar for the Commercial & Industrial sector.

 

This candidate requires a candidate to be based in San Francisco, and to oversee the product lifecycle from design and project design documents to permitting and product support.

 

Seeking a talented Electrical Engineer to spearhead electrical design and engineering initiatives within a dynamic clean energy firm. Leverage your engineering acumen and innovation to oversee the development of diverse projects and products, advancing our energy storage (BESS), EV charging, and solar solutions.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the production and management of comprehensive BESS, PV, & EV charging electrical design packages, utility interconnection drawings, site layouts, and other project deliverables.
  • Manage in-house and third-party design, prototyping, and testing for electrical products.
  • Act as the primary technical resource internally for BESS and PV design, NEC requirements, electrical calculations, microgrid design, and emerging industry technologies.
  • Review and provide feedback on design documents, ensuring compliance, constructability, and cost optimization.
  • Collaborate with external consultants for drafting structural, civil, and electrical designs.
  • Conduct site visits to assess design considerations, interconnection requirements, and project constructability.
  • Support procurement and construction teams with bills of materials, technical data evaluation, and design change inquiries.
  • Conduct lab testing and oversee UL certification.
  • Manage and refine internal design tools, templates, and processes.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (PE Licensure preferred / EIT certification considered).
  • 2-5 years of proven electrical engineering design experience in power, battery energy storage, or microgrid industries.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting/modeling programs.
  • Strong understanding of National Electrical Code (NEC), especially Article 690, 705, and related sections.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent multitasking and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of local utility and AHJ standards.
