Job Description

Quantity Surveyor 18 – 24 months – Malaysia

Location:                                                      Malaysia

Start Date:                                                   September 2024

Company:                                                    Multinational conglomerate that produces fire, HVAC, and security equipment for buildings. As of mid-2019, it employed 105,000 people in around 2,000.

Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for industrial construction projects, including materials, labour, equipment, and overhead costs, based on project plans, specifications, and relevant data.
  2. Develop and manage project budgets, tracking expenses, monitoring cost variances, and implementing cost control measures to ensure projects are completed within budgetary constraints.
  3. Identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering throughout the project lifecycle, working collaboratively with project teams to optimize project costs without compromising quality or performance.
  4. Prepare and evaluate tender documents, including bills of quantities, specifications, and contract terms, and participate in procurement activities to secure competitive bids from subcontractors and suppliers.
  5. Prepare regular cost reports and forecasts, analysing project expenditures, forecasting future costs, and providing accurate and timely cost-related information to project teams and stakeholders.
  6. Identify potential risks and uncertainties that may impact project costs, assess their potential impact, and develop strategies to mitigate risks and minimize cost overruns.
  7. Evaluate and negotiate contractor claims and disputes related to cost and pricing issues, working to achieve fair and equitable resolutions in accordance with contract provisions and project objectives.
  8. Conduct benchmarking analyses to compare project costs against industry standards and historical data, identifying areas for improvement and implementing best practices to enhance cost efficiency.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, construction management, or a related field (preferred).
  2. Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, preferably with a focus on industrial construction projects.
  3. Strong knowledge of quantity surveying principles, cost estimation techniques, and construction contracts and procurement methods.
  4. Proficiency in quantity surveying software and tools, such as CostX, WinEst, or Bluebeam.
  5. Excellent analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and perform detailed cost analyses.
  6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with project teams, subcontractors, and clients.
  7. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced construction environment.
  8. Certification or professional accreditation in quantity surveying or cost management (e.g., RICS, CIOB) is a plus.
