Senior Project Engineer

Leap29 are working closely with a top tier renewable energy company, with a strong presence across Europe. Our client is active across the continent in both the Solar and Battery Storage markets and are currently looking to fill the position of Senior Project Engineer. The ideal candidate will have experience in both development and EPC perspective.

The Senior Project Engineer will be responsible for looking after the technical aspects of the project at every stage, collaborating with Project and Corporate Development Managers, Transaction Managers and Project Managers. They will integrate site assessment studies, develop layout designs, manage bids and pricing for project financing and construction, and coordinate technical contracts with third-party entities such as Owner’s Engineers, Technical Advisors and Asset Managers.

As the project progresses and reaches financial close, the successful candidate supports the Project Manager during the construction phase and the Asset Management team once it becomes operational.

Responsibilities of the role:

  • Lead projects from inception to operation, overseeing technical aspects such as feasibility studies, development partner collaboration, and reviewing deliverables.
  • Manage due diligence processes for project acquisition or divestment, working with external advisors and stakeholders.
  • Lead procurement activities, including defining technical specifications, evaluating proposals, and negotiating with suppliers and contractors.
  • Provide technical oversight during construction, supporting the project manager and resolving complex issues on-site.
  • Offer technical support to the Asset Management team during the operational phase.
  • Manage external technical service providers and collaborate with various teams to integrate specialized knowledge into projects.
  • Provide regular reports on project progress, risk analysis, and opportunities.
  • Support and mentor colleagues, including providing technical training.
  • Conduct site visits to ensure technical compliance, quality control, and safety.

Qualifications for this role:

  • Over 10 years of experience leading technical aspects of renewable energy projects, with a focus on solar and storage.
  • Extensive knowledge of project development, design, procurement, construction, and operation in multiple markets.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with various stakeholders and collaborators.
  • Enthusiasm for working in an innovative environment.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or Civil/Structural).
  • Fluency in English; with additional languages like Italian, Spanish, French, or Greek as a positive.
  • Proficiency in negotiation and technical skills throughout project phases.
  • Experience interacting with industry advisors, consultants, suppliers, and contractors in utility-scale renewable projects.
  • Ability to participate in high-level technical discussions and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
